Furniture outlet stores are retail shops where you can buy reduced rate brand name furniture. These pieces are often slightly damaged of miss-matched but sometimes you can pick up a whole set at bargain prices. Given the state of the current economy a lot of stores are suffering from overstocking. This is where the stores buyers have overestimated the demand for some items and now can't sell them. They cannot afford to keep the pieces on the shop floor for ever so they will often return them to the manufacturer.
The manufacturer will try and sell the pieces at furniture outlet stores. As they are dealing direct with the public, they can afford to slash the prices of the products as there is no third party commission or other costs involved. So if you are not too fashion conscious i.e. you don’t need to have this seasons look in your home, you can find some nice bargains in your local outlet store. Often the only thing wrong with these furniture pieces is that they are last year’s model.
The benefit of shopping at furniture outlet stores is the fact that you can often make your dollars go much further. So long as you are open minded about the style and color, you can pick up great deals. Although you wouldn't normally think of buying mismatched pieces, if you already have an eclectic look in your home, it may suit your sense of style.
Furniture outlet stores may also stock goods that were previously on display on shop floors. These pieces could have been damaged at some point and may have been repaired. They may actually have a better finish than some of the other furniture on offer that was stored in the warehouses.
Furniture outlet stores are not the same as furniture discount stores. The former is owned by the furniture manufacturers who are selling their own brands at a cheaper price. The discount stores will buy pieces from various different companies and sell it on. Due to their significant buying power and their lower costs i.e. the discount shops do not tend to be in the center of town, they can often afford to sell items at less than better known shops.
The major disadvantage of dealing with furniture outlet stores either online or offline is the fact that what you see is what you get. When you buy a piece, if you later discover a fault, you cannot return it. Also there are generally no fancy frills to the service you receive with customers expected to transport the goods they have bought themselves. Don't expect anyone to offer to gift wrap anything and do be prepared to wait to be served. Too many staff is a luxury furniture outlet stores are not prepared to indulge in!
